Electronic Telegram No. 5739 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network (556068) 2014 JR_80 B. Proudfoot, Florida Space Institute; W. Grundy, Northern Arizona University; D. Ragozzine, Brigham Young University; B. Holler, Space Telescope Science Institute; F. L. Rommel and E. Fernandez-Valenzuela, Florida Space Institute; and J. M. Gomez-Limon, Instituto de Astrofisica de Andaluca, report that the 3:2 resonant trans-Neptunian object (556068) is a wide binary where the secondary is 0.13 +/- 0.01 mag fainter than the primary. The binary was discovered in four 350-s Hubble Space Telescope exposures taken with the WFC3/UVIS camera (+ F350LP filter) on 2026 June 13. The secondary was separated by 0".846 in p.a. 16 deg. At the time of the first image (June 13.58366 UT), the primary was located at R.A. = 20h42m57.81s, Decl. = -20d22'14".9 (equinox J2000.0). A search through archival data from the Canada-France-Hawaii and Cerro Tololo Blanco telescopes confirms the object's binary nature; those images detected a binary with separations between 0".5 and 1".0 at six epochs from 2019 through 2023.
