Electronic Telegram No. 5751 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Mailing address: Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network (459865) 2013 XZ_8 B. Proudfoot, Florida Space Institute; and W. Grundy, D. Trilling, and E. Clark, Northern Arizona University, report that the centaur-type minor planet (459865) is a tight, approximately equal-sized binary, where the secondary is 0.35 +/- 0.09 mag fainter than the primary. The binary was discovered in two 500-s Hubble Space Telescope exposures taken with the WFC3/UVIS camera (+ F555W filter) on 2025 June 5 (HST Program 17755, P.I. D. Trilling). At the time of the HST imaging, the resolved components were separated by 0".045 +/- 0".013 in p.a. 157.3 +/- 3.2 deg. At the time of the first image (2025 June 5.74345 UT), the primary was located at R.A. = 17h11m22s.15, Decl. = -26d37'34".7 (equinox J2000.0).
