Cable Address: SATELLITES, NEWYORK Western Union: RAPID SATELLITE CAMBMASS COMET HARLAN (1976g) A. R. Klemola, Lick Observatory, reports that Eugene A. Harlan has discovered a comet on plates exposed with the 51-cm double astrograph. The following positions are available: 1976 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m1 Observer Apr. 27.31042 13 34.1 +45 22 15 Kowal May 3.2480 13 27 16.0 +44 53 18 15 Harlan 3.3328 13 27 10.7 +44 52 46 " 6.31736 13 23 56.00 +44 32 56.0 15 " C. T. Kowal (Hale Observatories). 46-cm Schmidt telescope. This tentative prediscovery image was identified before the sense of motion of the comet had been definitely established. E. A. Harlan (Lick Observatory). Comet small and diffuse with strong condensation; no tail. Measurer: Klemola. The May 3 positions refer to the beginning and end of the trail. PERIODIC COMET JOHNSON (1976h) E. Roemer, University of Arizona, reports that she and C. A. Heller have recovered this comet with the Steward Observatory's 229-cm reflector, Kitt Peak, as shown below. The comet appears as a small spot on the 60-min exposures obtained in seeing that was not particularly good. The comet is almost exactly in the position predicted by S. W. Milbourn and the late G. Lea on IAUC 2911. 1976 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m2 May 5.34609 17 33.87 - 8 15.1 ~20.5 5.38956 17 33.86 - 8 15.1 PERIODIC COMET FAYE (1976i) Roemer and Heller have also recovered this comet, which appeared as only a weak spot on the plates. The position is in very close agreement with the prediction on IAUC 2896. 1976 UT R. A. (1950) Decl. m2 May 5.43718 20 55.74 - 7 21.1 ~20.0-20.2 5.46604 20 55.75 - 7 21.0 1976 May 7 (2947) Brian G.
