Circular No. 3544 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION Postal Address: Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. TWX 710-320-6842 ASTROGRAM CAM Telephone 617-864-5758 1E 1145.1-6141 J. B. Hutchings, A. P. Cowley and D. Crampton, Dominion Astrophysical Qbservatory, report: "Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory spectra of the star lying within 5" of the Einstein High Resolution Imager x-ray position for this pulsar show that it is a reddened supergiant of spectral type ~ B3. The star is at position R.A. = 11h45m02s.3, Decl. = -61o40'33" (equinox 1950.0), and has V ~ 12 and B ~ 14. No He II 468.6-nm emission is seen. These quantities are consistent with the implied low Lx/Lopt value, the x-ray cut-off and the long binary period proposed by White et al. (1980, Ay.J. 239, 659). Further observations of this star are desirable." HDE 245770 C. Bartolini, A. Dapergolas, A. Guarnieri and A. Piccioni, Istituto di Astronomia, University of Bologna; and A. Giangrande and F. Giovannelli, Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale, Frascati, telex: "Photoelectric photometry of HDE 245770 carried out at Bologna Observatory on Oct. 13, 20, 21, 22 and 28 during an x-ray flare of A0535+262 (cf. Oda et al., IAUC 3525 and 3527) does not reveal any particular optical activity. The star is at the same luminosity level of 1980 Feb. (Giovannelll et al. 1980, Proc. Sec- ond European IUE Conf.), the mean magnitudes being V = 8.886, B-V = +0.566 and U-B = -0.595." SUPERNOVA IN NGC 6946 R. Wood, Royal Greenwich Observatory, communicates the following precise position obtained by Clements: R.A. = 20h34m26s.67, Decl. = +59o55'56".4 (equinox 1950.0; mpg ~ 12 on Nov. 10). R. J. Buta, Department of Astronomy, University of Texas at Austin, reports the following photoelectric observations made by M. Newberry and himself with the 0.76- and 0.91-m reflectors, respectively: 1980 Nov. 4.15 UT, V = 11.38, B-V = +0.40, U-B = -0.57; 5.11, 11.40, +0.39, -0.54; 6.10, 11.42, +0.41, -0.52; 7.11, 11.45, +0.42, -0.50; 8.10, 11.51, +0.44, -0.46; 9.09, 11.54, +0.45, -0.46; 10.10, 11.59, +0.47, -0.42; 11.14, 11.63, +0.48, -0.37; 12.12, 11.68, +0.50, -0.33. 1980 November 26 (3544) Daniel W.
