N. Mauron, Pic-du-Midi Observatory, reports: "Recent observations
with the 2-m telescope resulted in the detection around the
luminous red supergiant mu Cep of a huge circumstellar envelope of
angular diameter > 1' in the Na D line at 589.0 nm. The images
were obtained over 1 hr through a focal reducer on an RCA CCD
camera equipped with a narrow-band filter and a Fabry-Perot fixed
interferometer. High-resolution mm or infrared spectra of CO (and
other molecules, if possible) would be extremely useful in deriving
a reliable mass-loss rate for this massive evolved star."
SUPERNOVA 1984L IN NGC 991
J. C. Wheeler, Department of Astronomy, University of Texas
at Austin, writes: "Spectra taken by R. Leverault on Aug. 28 near
maximum light confirm that this was a peculiar type I supernova
lacking the prominent absorption feature at 610 nm and very similar
to the supernova 1983N in M83. Ultraviolet, optical, infrared
and radio observations are urgent."
COORDINATED OBSERVATIONS OF GBS 0526-66
H. Pedersen writes that a campaign for observations of this
G-ray-burst source at all wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum
is planned for 1984 Dec. 25-1985 Jan. 6. Potential observers
